Firewall Settings

What exactly is a firewall? A firewall filters certain types of information that is entering or leaving a network or computer. Firewalls do not filter for viruses or spyware like anti-virus or anti-spyware software.

There are two different categories of firewalls: software and hardware.

* A software firewall is a program you install on your computer. For most home users a software firewall is the best and most economical choice.

* A hardware firewall is a dedicated appliance that does firewalling. For a business with a medium to large network a hardware firewall is a better choice.
